Exploring popular destinations is very fun, however, it comes with the disadvantage of having to contend with overcrowded tourist spots. During peak season, they overcrowd these locations to the point that they even affect the overall feel of the place. Luckily, there are other, less crowded options that you can find if you think a bit and arrange everything in advance, and it is as mesmerizing as these places’ amphitheaters and art. Here are some ideas on how one can avoid overcrowded places while at the same time having the best of the holiday.

1. Travel off-peak

Another thing that guarantees the number one rule, which is avoiding overcrowded spaces, is touring during low seasons. People fond of traveling know that most popular destinations have that period when travelers visit them rarely. If you have a specific object of interest, check out which time of the year is the best for traveling to this place. For instance, it is okay to travel to Paris in the summer, but the chances are high that the place might be overcrowded, so, it’s better to travel in spring or autumn as the weather will also be good. Not only are you going to miss the crowds of tourists, but you may enjoy less expensive accommodation and flights.

2. Explore lesser-known attractions

Avoid rushing into action and traveling instantly to visit places that are the most popular tourist destinations, rather one should spend time to find some surprising and inspired tourist attractions. For instance, if you are going to Spain, while almost everyone goes to the Sagrada Família in Barcelona, why not explore the better Casa Vicens or the lesser crowded corners of Park Güell? These alternatives are not only less noisy but more frequently can give visitors a closer acquaintance with the history of the place.

3. Seek local recommendations

Do not forget that, when traveling, it is always wise to seek the help of locals. They can give rich information about which places to go to and when to go there. In many cases, people living in a particular area have some knowledge of the places that are not very famous, but which are as wonderful and historically valuable. This might refer to beautiful streets, restaurants and parks around the area of tourist interest which most visitors do not find worthy to capture on camera. Interacting with local people can also be interesting because they tell stories and explain local circumstances that are not described in tourism reference books.

4. Visit during weekdays

If possible, avoid going to the overcrowded tourist spots on weekends, because it will be overcrowded. This means that most attractions, especially during the workweek, are not crowded, particularly in the morning or late afternoon. For instance, the Louvre Museum in Paris records fewer visitors between Tuesday and Wednesday than on the weekend. It is thus best to plan your schedules in a way that you reduce your movements in crowded areas to such times, or even avoid certain areas all at once.

5. Choose alternative destinations

If you have a specific category of place you wish to visit but with less crowd, then there are always options of less touristy places that afford similar experiences. For example, if you cancel always go to the beach areas, try going to some other areas such as Tulum or Playa del Carmen since they also offer good sandy beaches and local heritage but are not as overcrowded. This may cause one to explore other regions that have not been featured in the list for a long time because they are usually not crowded.

6. Utilize technology

Well, in the modern world, technology works for you if you’re trying to avoid overcrowded spots. In this case, use apps/Websites that offer up-to-date information regarding congestion at several attractions. Some social platforms can send notifications about whether it is better to visit certain places or not according to the flow of people. Furthermore, social media can help you find areas that at the moment are not crowded as travelers share their experiences and preferred destinations on Instagram, and Twitter among other platforms.

7. Opt for guided tours

Surprisingly, it might be more effective to use guided tours to avoid overcrowded tourist spots as often as possible. There are numerous tour operators and travel agencies that publish programs for small group sightseeing tours, which either include visits to less-known places or provide fast-track services to popular attractions. Such tours give the tourist a chance to see certain areas or get certain experiences that a normal tourist would not have. Hiring a good tour operator means you get to have a better-planned trip and avoid the hustle of the large group.

8. Be flexible with your itinerary

One of the best practices that can be employed to avoid such overcrowded areas is flexibility. If you navigate to a location that is extremely popular and crowded, having a backup plan is useful. There are, for example, some places which can be visited if the most attractive one is overcrowded. That way, one can avoid the stress associated with trying to get through large crowds while out on the trip, thus being open to change can be exciting and provide opportunities for new and exciting discoveries.

Several destinations attract many travelers, and moving around in such areas can prove extremely tricky during certain times of the year. But if you are willing to learn more and look for marvelous options other than busy areas, there are fantastic options that you will find much more comfortable and pleasant to travel. If you avoid peak tourism periods, visit sites that are not popular, ask for recommendations from locals, and use technology, your travel experience will not be stressful.

If you are thinking of flying to your chosen destination, make sure to do so using JetSaver. There are plenty of low-cost flight deals available for both well-traveled tourist attractions and out-of-the-way locations with the help of the JetSaver service search engine. Do not have to go through the stress of traveling in large groups, but to get to the same destination with more comfort.
